eXtreme EDC – NEW CZECH BIG GUN SLING!

There is something about the eXtreme EDC Slingshot that reminds you of GUNS! This is because the designer, who clearly has the passion for slingshots is a high end firearm armourer/designer by profession! He helped make this HUGE half-inch .50/.410 hand-shotgun! It is muzzle-loading for black powder especially to be ‘not a firearm’ in the USA! It is one scary-looking thing.

You want a big iron on your hip?

And he has a new tactical slingshot. Made to the same engineering standards as the weapon below.

The Czech republic are one of the world’s go-to countries for getting weapons made at keen prices. Even here in Blighty where hand guns are thankfully far less common than other lands, we know about European gun makers’ names like Glock and Walther. That piece of serious weaponry above comes from a company recently renamed and now called Detonics in the Czech Republic. It’s serious stuff and even to look at that website, you have to click the box that says, “The following pages are intended exclusively for professionals and entrepreneurs in the field of production and sale of firearms and ammunition. I confirm that I hold a Weapons License or Weapons License.”
I don’t, so I felt naughty for looking!

The eXtreme EDC website sells stuff that mostly, we are not allowed to own in the UK, let alone fly in planes with. (HERE is my idea of extreme EDC or Every Day Carry!) Their finely engineered belt buckles hold your trousers up and hide a wicked little dagger that you can whip out in a moment. Then, mostly, it’s knuckle dusters, from single or dual finger ones to a few designs in full fist ones. These are seen as entirely sane and normal things to own in the Czech Republic!

I got contacted on the Slingshot World email by Detonics’ Jiří Šejna who was charming! And I do not think that I can do better than the awesome email he put together for me, packed with information and some background on his intended market. So here is that mail: (with added images from their site.)

THE EMAIL

Hi,

I should like to start by thanking you for your willingness to publish my slingshot and I would like to write you a little about myself, especially what I do and about the slingshot that you already own. (He sent me one! AND IT IS GOING IN ISSUE SIX AS FULL REVIEW AND TEST Ed.)

My name is Jiří Šejna, I’m 35 years old and I’m from the Czech Republic. Since I was kid I enjoyed inventing and making various children’s weapons and similar things. This hobby caught up me until my adulthood, when it became a full-time job.

Currently, I’m fully dedicated to my brand eXtreme EDC, under which I manufacture various EDC accessories and self-defence equipment (the law in the Czech Republic is much looser than in the UK and all my products are legal in our country and can be worn by anyone from 18 years). You can see my complete work in the links I send below.

My path to my own brand was very long and exacting. Due to the fact that I am an engineer and a designer, I design and manufacture all products myself. I’m always putting the emphasis on maximum quality and original products. My philosophy is to produce everything in the Czech Republic and all my suppliers are from the Czech Republic. One of my goals is to show that even at this time you can come up with an original concept. This path is always more complicated because I have to design each product from scratch and gradually work out to the perfect result. That is eXtreme EDC.

And now to the eXtreme EDC slingshot itself…

The thought of my own slingshot had matured in me for a long time, but I didn’t have a clear vision.
The last time I had a slingshot was 25 years ago. Sometimes I looked at google what slingshots are made now, and every time I saw a flood of slingshots from China for €5. I thought I couldn’t even compete and come up with something new. But I like challenges and I had to start working on it.
For new products, the decisive factor is that they attract attention and I wanted to buy them myself.

So it has to be original and it has to have a “cool factor”.

I knew from the beginning that one of the things would be a bullet magazine. After consulting with several professional shooters, I decided to build the slingshot on 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) bullets. Thanks to this, the slingshot can be used both for fun shooting and hunting because such a large bullet already has enough energy.
I sat in the office and started the design process. Then used a 3D drawing program to design it. After starting with a rough sketch, which I always print out in a 1: 1 scale, I then cut it out and I move on. And this is how the final design will be created, which I will then be milled on a CNC machine.
Slingshot is one of the few things that succeeded in the “first good”.

(A few notes from Jiří about approach…)

Once you start testing and writing a review, it is important to realise its purpose. It’s a modern slingshot that fits my EDC equipment concept. It is intended for users like me. I like to go to nature and there is a target of almost everything. Or I’m going to shoot in the garden and I have a can as a target and I only need eight balls in my magazine. I like things that look good and are well made.

There are two aiming options on the slingshot: a notch that is highlighted when the rubber is stretched and also a white dot (through which it aims much better). I made the notch on a test piece and I decided to leave it there in the finished product for use with longer distance shooting.
The whole slingshot is made of aviation duralumin 7075, is blasted with glass balls and then anodised.

I’m really proud of the slingshot because it was a challenge to think of something original and I also really enjoy it. I’ve been shooting thousands of balls since I made it, and I still don’t enjoy it any less!
I hope you enjoy my slingshot and are happy with it. I’m very happy for your help in publishing my work. When I started making slingshots, I found out how the slingshot shooter community is incredibly open and accommodating and I’m glad to be a part of it and to bring a bit of my work into this great world.

Finally, I send you a few links where you can see my eXtreme EDC work.
