Club-seeking? Slingshooting is a sport of the rugged individualist. The moocher on their own, possibly with a dog and rarely with anyone else. But the camaraderie, competition and pure fun, as well as the social side of catapult competitions and tournaments to targets is absolutely the lifeblood of the community.
Cookouts and fireside banter… Awesome camping setups and TROPHIES! A weekend spent at a catapult event always enthuses and refuels the passion. But what about regular club meetings?
As such, folks have been setting up clubs with just their friends and getting permissions to quietly get on with their thing in the woods. We have a club with a course in woodland attached to a quiet commercial fishery and one, run by Lee Harrison, that has access to a private wood. The owner’s grandfather was a catapult man and she’s delighted the the tradition is continuing on her land.
The OG England Slingshot Federation is the oldest, although we have a history of different names for different cliques that rose and fell in the past. Truth is, we are up there with boxing for being a bit divided.
Thus, FINDING these clubs and events can be challenging. For one, there are very few of these folks who, despite having a Facebook page, bother with the FB EVENTS system, as perhaps they realise that a simple page post reaches better and faster and can be repeated for new folks.
But as for that oft-asked question, “Where can I shoot?” it has been a challenge to find places to plink and folks to compete with in ONE PLACE.
WHAT IF THERE WAS A RECOGNISED DIARY PAGE TO REFER TO?
Well, there is now. It’s just day one and I can update it like a good little Tank Engine and shall do so regularly and often. Just let me know. https://www.slingshotworld.co.uk/clubs-and-events/
